Let’s Start Having Fun Again

April 15, 2011 by Joe McAuliffe

Let’s Start Having Fun Again

For the past four years, being a real estate agent has consisted of enduring one frustration or challenge after another. Talk about spaced repetition. It’s gotten to the point where most of us now expect to have something go wrong.

Therein lies the problem. The market has turned for the better and opportunities for business can be found at almost every turn. Sure, we still have challenges that include financing issues, sellers in denial, and hesitant buyers but the fact of the matter remains that by focusing on the negative subjects we could quite possibly be overlooking some of the best opportunities in years.

We must remember that the law of attraction applies. When we enjoy our business it shows. Our buyers and sellers take our lead so it’s important for us to put our best foot forward and start having fun. Some examples that were recently shared by one of the workshop agents are great examples of how to project a positive image.

Example 1. An agent was warm canvasing their farm area when they noticed that Jehovia’s Witnesses had already been to every home in the farm. Instead of giving up, this agent modified his presentation by jokingly asking every seller if they would like to buy a bible.

Example 2. Another agent warm called his farm area and opened the conversation by stating that they were running out the door and didn’t have time to talk even though they were the ones who had initiated the phone call. Although the home owner that answered the phone was perplexed at first, they found the approach both refreshing and amusing.

Example 3. The same agent when conducting an open house would invite people in, and with a serious look would explain that the house wasn’t for sale and then with a warm smile would explain that they were just teasing.

The point behind each of these scenarios was that the agent once again was having fun in their real estate business. You may be surprised how much easier business is to get when your message is delivered with a warm smile and a winning attitude. So don’t forget what you put out there is usually what you get back.  Go out, take the shots and have some fun!
